September 2015 to May 2017: Digital Managing Editor,

Directed the day-to-day online editorial work of one of the nation’s most venerable media brands. Led a team of editors, writers, multimedia producers and freelancers to create a constant report on the world as it related to the African-American community. Through this work, monthly pageviews were raised from less than 400,000 to more than 2 million.

July 2014 to September 2015: Front Door Editor,

Homepage editor for one of the most important news networks in the world. Responsibilities include editing copy for online use, rewriting stories from correspondents and affiliates, editing wires, recognizing and responding to breaking news and writing headlines and decks for reader and SEO purposes.

February 2014 to present: Independent Multimedia Journalist

Writer, reporter and editor specializing in urban issues and criminal justice. Clients include, JET magazine and The Crisis. Also a producer of multimedia news content that brings an audio and visual experience to stories that can be explained by those means. Currently seeking new assignments that allow this type of reporting.

July 2006 to February 2014: Homepage Producer/Writer,

Produced, edited and wrote Internet content. Primarily responsible for online production and headline writing of breaking news content, but produced packages including a podcast series for TIME’s Detroit project; a multimedia presentation on Martin Luther King’s final hours, and an award-winning piece on the Los Angeles Riot.

December 2002 to May 2005: Reporter/Overnight Editor, Associated Press (NYC Bureau).

Covered New York in a general assignment capacity for international news cooperative. Used reporting and editing skills to serve a worldwide audience in a deadline-driven environment. Won a local journalism award for an article on the Apollo Theater’s anniversary.

March 2000 to April 2013: Contributor,, Black, Black, various

Wrote social commentary essays on a spectrum of social and political topics for the web’s most widely read sites focused on global issues concerning African Americans.

March 2000 to December 2002: Producer, The New York Times on the Web.

Conducted Internet production for news reported by The New York Times. Produced daily packages for the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and coverage of the 2000 presidential elections.

October 1995 to March 2000: Reporter, The Detroit News.

Served as a watchdog on business, government and community issues for a special section focusing on Detroit’s inner city.  Major features included a revisiting of the 1967 riot, and coverage of urban decay.


September-October 2005: Volunteer News Consultant/Newswriter, Jubilee Radio, Keta, Ghana, West Africa. Worked through non-governmental organization for an FM station in rural Africa. Helped staff to develop news coverage and improve the station’s English-language report.
